Types of Atlanta Car Accidents
March 8, 2024Most Common Injuries from Atlanta Car Accidents
March 22, 2024Every year in the US, thousands of people are injured in car accidents. While some of accidents happen because of bad weather or driving conditions, most accidents occur because of driver error. When a driver is negligent, they’re putting everyone around them in danger. Here are some of the most common causes of car accidents in the Atlanta area.
Speeding
Speeding is one of the most common causes of car accidents in Atlanta. It also leads to the most fatal accidents. Whether someone is driving over the posted speed limit or driving too fast for road conditions, a person who speeds is more likely to lose control of their vehicle. Speeding reduces the amount of time that a driver has to react to a situation on the road. It can also reduce the effectiveness of the vehicle’s safety features.
Distracted Driving
When a person is operating a vehicle, it’s critical for them to pay attention and keep their eyes on the road. A distracted driver poses a risk to nearby motorists and pedestrians. There are three types of distractions: cognitive, visual, and manual. A cognitive distraction pulls a driver’s attention from the road (ex: talking to passengers). When a driver is visually distracted, they’re not looking at the roadway ahead (ex: adjusting the radio or GPS). Manual distractions cause the driver to remove their hands from the steering wheel (ex: texting, eating). It only takes a second of distraction for an accident to happen.
Drunk or Drugged Driving
Despite all of the warnings about driving while impaired, some drivers still get behind the wheel after consuming drugs or alcohol. Having these substances in their system can harm their judgment and ability to drive. When someone is intoxicated, they cannot concentrate, respond quickly, or operate the vehicle as effectively. It puts everyone on the road in danger, including the driver. Drunk or drugged driving is one of the leading causes of car accidents in Atlanta.
Drowsy Driving
Drowsy driving, also known as fatigued driving, happens when a driver gets behind the wheel when they’re overly tired. In this condition, they may not be able to concentrate on the road or react quickly in emergency situations. Some drivers may even fall asleep behind the wheel. A drowsy driver is more likely to cause or be involved in an auto accident.
Failure to Maintain Their Vehicle
Atlanta drivers are responsible for maintaining their vehicles. If they don’t, accidents can happen. If a driver does not regularly inspect their vehicle’s engine, tires, brakes, or other essential parts, these could fail on the road – leading to injuries and property damage.
